Dear Birth Parent(s), We want to thank you for considering us as prospective adoptive parents for your child. We admire your strength and courage to do what is best for you and your baby. Our names are Michelle and David, and we live in the city of Chicago. We are very excited to build our family through adoption, and we hope this letter gives you a glimpse of our lives together. If you select us as the adoptive parents, we promise your child a healthy, loving, happy family. We met ten years ago through a mutual friend, and we have recently celebrated five years of a happy marriage. Our friends say we complement each other. We love to laugh and finish each other's stories. Neither of us is shy, and we definitely bring out the best in each other. In fact, Dave is always a welcome addition to girls' night out because of his funny storytelling. We look at life with a sense of humor and support each other when curveballs are thrown our way. One of those curveballs was the inability to conceive, but we are eagerly turning to adoption, which is our special way of building a family. About Dave I was raised in a small town in Indiana, and had a very happy childhood with my three siblings, a stay at home mom, and a small business owning dad. My dad owned a concrete construction company, and busy season was spring through fall. I had my share of fun growing up with the likes of BMX bikes, Kool-Aid and skateboards, and playing with the neighborhood kids. My family is close knit, and we all had the responsibility of working for the family business during the summer. I am the youngest of four, which includes one brother and two sisters who like to call me "Davey." I am eager to adopt and start my own family! The aunts and uncles are also eagerly awaiting the new arrival. I attended a smalltown high school, and then attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. I have a degree in electrical engineering, and, after graduation, I moved to Chicago where I started a career in sales, primarily computer networking solutions. I am now a national account manager for a large technology security company (and National Sales Manager of the Year for 2007!). I enjoy my job because it allows me to work from home, which provides a better-than-average work/life balance. I enjoy sports (I am a Bears season ticket holder), so our new family member better be prepared for a cold day at Soldier Field (Bears football stadium)! I also like classic cars, electronics (iPods, stereos, etc.), music, and visiting with family and friends. About Michelle I was also raised in a small town in Indiana, and I also had a very happy childhood. I never had a shortage of 8-track Shaun Cassidy tapes, Barbie dolls and sundresses. I grew up in a large family of five siblings, consisting of three older sisters, one older brother and one younger brother. I also had a stay at home mother, and my father worked at US Steel for over 40 years. I grew up with an extended family, and I always had a number of nieces and nephews running around our house. Even though we didn’t live on a farm, we grew up with a number of pets, including rabbits, ducks, goats, and even a pet rooster. I can hardly wait to share my love of animals with our new baby. My family is eager to welcome our child. I attended a small high school and graduated from Valparaiso University in Indiana with a degree in communications. I also received my MBA in finance and then worked in finance until three years ago when I switched careers to executive recruiting in finance and accounting. I also teach group fitness for various health clubs in Chicago. However, I plan on working part-time (which my job allows me to do) after our baby arrives. I enjoy gardening and music, and I am also a sports fan (but I root for the Colts). Bears vs. Colts always creates a little healthy competition on who walks our dogs! Our Community Our home is in a near north neighborhood in downtown Chicago. We are one of the lucky ones who have a driveway and a backyard. The garden in the back produces plenty of fresh vegetables for us and our neighbors. We share our home with two Shih Tzus, Diablo (13 lbs) and Blanca (7 lbs) who are very spoiled, but still know their place and are definitely a part of our family. We have three bedrooms, but one is used as Dave’s office (he works from home). We have started to prepare the third bedroom, and we are looking forward to selecting pink or blue. We think either one would be great. Even though we live in the big city, we still have down to earth values and attitudes. We enjoy going out to dinner and vacationing with our friends, as well as taking day trips to Indiana to visit family. Most of the time, we enjoy having a family meal together and then putting in a movie (especially during winter), but the summer is a whole different ball game when it comes to our activities. During the summer, we love to have friends come over for cookouts, going to Cubs games and attending summer festivals. However the best part is when we get to enjoy the end of a long summer day sitting out on our back deck. Our Wish Since we are unable to have a child ourselves and come from such large families, our deepest wish is to adopt and complete our family. We talked about children before we were married, and had hoped that our house would be filled with the pitter patter of little feet and the sound of little voices. We know raising a child will bring much joy as well as many challenges, but we believe we are up for the responsibility. We know we can provide a healthy home for our child, and we will enjoy every minute of it. Please be assured that we will give your child our complete attention, patience and love.
